In the focus
Cultural education enables diverse aesthetic experiences - whether in dance or drama, music or sport. Under the direction of Prof. Dr Antje Klinge, the department educates students and teachers in creative methods and the teaching of artistic forms of expression and design. Cooperation with non-university educational partners is a natural part of the projects in theory and praxis.

Whether projects within or outside of schools, workshops in the open all-day sector, holiday and free-time courses in youth centres, VHS seminars or educational programmes in museums - the range of cultural education on offer is broad. It supports participants of all ages and in every phase of life in their individual development, away from evaluation and segregation mechanisms, and gives them access to artistic and cultural fields of practice.
To enable every child - regardless of origin and income of the parental home - an early contact with artistic forms of expression and processes, the integration into school contexts must be particularly promoted and demanded. For this reason, the teaching and research area of sports pedagogy and didactics focus on initial and in-service teacher development, not only for PE teachers.
The core concern of cultural education is to enable aesthetic experiences through encounters and confrontations with forms of expression such as theatre, music, games, visual arts, dance, movement arts, sport, film, photography or new media. By emphasising the aesthetic-expressive dimension of learning, the differentiated perception and reflection of self-evident facts and habits, cultural education offers set accents for a return to the physical foundation of education.
