• Since 2005: University Professor (W3) and Head of the Chair of Sports Medicine and Sports Nutrition at the Ruhr University Bochum.
• 1987 - 2005: Research associate, assistant, academic councillor and senior councillor at the German Sport University Cologne (1987-2005)
• 1997: Habilitation and Venia legendi for sports medicine at the German Sport University Cologne: "The reproductive endocrine system of women: effects of physical exercise with consideration of caloric balancing".
• 1990: Doctorate in medicine at the University of Cologne: "Metabolism of 1-alkenyl-sn-glycero-phospho-ethanolamine in astrocyte cultures from the cerebellum of young mice".
• 1987: Licence to practise medicine
• 1978-1987: Studies in biology and human medicine (University of Cologne),
• Various further training and additional qualifications: Sports medicine, acupuncture, manual medicine, echocardiography, Doppler echocardiography, radiation protection, nutritional medicine, diving medicine, mountain and high-altitude medicine.

• Research associate, Department of Sports Medicine and Sports Nutrition, Faculty of Sports Science, Ruhr University Bochum (since 1991); main areas of work: Sensory and perceptual physiological aspects in sport, movement coordination, movement perception, perception training, safety in sport/school sport, etc.
• Lecturer at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences and the Ernst Abbe University in Jena in the field of sports optics/sports optometry.
• Member of numerous advisory boards: Advisory Board for Medicine and Health of the DSV (German Ski Association; Foundation Safety in Skiing, Friends of Skiing e.V.); Scientific Advisory Board of "Lingelbachs Scheune - Optische Phänomene e.V." (Museum); Advisory Board of the Foundation Safety in Sport and member of the founding team
