- Sports history: Reconstruction of sport after 1945, radical-democratic groupings in the early gymnastics movement, history of sports science, philosophy of science in sports history.
- Sports pedagogy/sports didactics: conception of a "critical-constructive" sports pedagogy, planning and evaluation of sports lessons, democracy pedagogy in/through sports, constructive sports didactics (development of theory-based practical sports concepts), scientific theory of sports pedagogy
